Chapter 43

Jon's heart beat faster and faster as they stepped out of the God's Garden. He was worried about Miraha's reaction. If she insisted on viewing the contract, what would he do? Even if he had to die, he couldn't let anyone see this contract. Not even Maggie.

Surprisingly, Miraha wasn't there when they stepped out of the God's Garden in the wee hours of the morning. The sun was already rising in the east, and that meant they’d spent almost twenty minutes inside the God's Garden.

A yawn slipped out of Samira's mouth and, seeing him looking at her, red rushed to her cheeks and she covered her mouth.

What was wrong with yawning? He had seen many women, and they all tried to hide small actions like these. He never understood why.

“Go and get some sleep in one of the tents. But not the middle one, that's Miraha's,” Jon said. The last thing he wanted was another fight between those two.

“Are you going to sleep as well?”

Jon shook his head. “No, I've got a plant to grow.” His task to cleanse the corrosive soil was too long pending. If it wasn't for the assassin’s attack, he would have finished it already. “Then I've got to go to Chinari.” Why, he didn't know, but Vivian's message had struck a chord. He had to know what she’d meant.

“I'll come with you. I've got a few ingredients to buy.”

Jon nodded, then headed toward the edge that separated fertile soil and the land of corrosion. Pulling out a random seed, he planted it an inch before the fertile land finished.

“What are you doing?” Samira followed him.

Jon snickered. “Just watch.” She was in for a treat.

Getting up, Jon cast his Evolved Land Heal on the seed in front of him. He had confirmed with the evil druid guardian spirit that the quality of the seed didn't matter, so he didn't bother to use Purify or imbue his spirit into the seed.

Streams of spirit shot from his hands and landed on the planted seed. The seed vibrated, and the surrounding earth shook violently, forming spiderweb-like cracks in the surface that spread around.

Samira gasped as a black void emerged on top of the seed and sucked it inside. From the same dark void, a thick black vine, as thick as the waste of a dragon, emerged from it and planted itself into the soil.

The earth shook again as the dark void disappeared, cutting the vine at the edge. The vine straightened, and it started shooting for the sky.

Jon's heart raced as the vine grew taller and taller, chasing the sky. His neck strained, bent to the limit. Only after reaching four hundred or so feet did the vine growth stop.

When the vine's horizontal growth stopped, five branches at the height of Jon's head grew from the vine's trunk and curved down to stab into the land. When they stabbed into the soil, finger-thin roots emerged from them, spreading over the surface. These roots spread around and quickly covered the distance between the vine and Jon.
